Representation in Media in 100 Words

All media texts are re-presentations of reality, meaning that they are composed, written, framed, cropped, captioned, branded, targeted and censored by their produces, making them an entirely artificial version of the reality we perceive around us.

From magazines to home videos, every media form is a representation of someone's concept of existence. However, without media, our perception of reality would be much more limited and therefore we need the media to help us make sense of reality. Therefore media is a two-way process: producers position a text close to reality and audiences assess a text on its relationship to reality.
